Sijia Ma was born in 1996 in China. There she got her first piano lesson at the age of four. she received lessons from Prof. Grigory Gruzman, Prof. Nikola Krizhanowski and Prof. Sergei Kalachev. At the age of 12, she also had inspiring lessons with Prof. Grigory Gruzman in Weimar. That’s why she was regularly in Germany for several weeks or months until she graduated. In 2011 she also passed the entrance examination of the Music Gymnasium Schloss Belvedere.
Since October 2013 Sijia Ma studies at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg. First with Prof. Caroline Weichert and since 2014 with Prof. Hubert Rutkowski. After completing her bachelor’s degree, she is now a master’s student.
Sijia Ma already won her first competition in China at the age of 9 and in the following years she was awarded a few prizes at national and international piano competitions. Among other things, Sijia Ma 2017 was awarded the Steinway Prize in Hamburg. This year, she won first prize in the Elise Meyer Foundation competition.
Sijia Ma completed masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Sergei Osipenko, Alexie Lubimov, Bernd Goetzke and Karl-Heinz Kämmerling.As a soloist and chamber musician she has played concerts in various countries. Among them were invitations to important festivals, such as the Mozart Festival in Warsaw and the Chopin Festival in Hamburg.Since September 2017, she has been supported by the Career Center of the HfMT Hamburg and the Gisela and Erich Andreas Foundation since April 2018. And since April 2019 she has got a DAAD scholarship.
Sijia Ma not only deals with the modern grand piano, but also proves her versatility through performances with historical instruments.
